Body Hair Transplant

Body hair transplantation expands the donor supply beyond the scalp by using suitable follicles from other areas of the body. It can be especially important for patients with extensive hair loss, previous transplant surgery or limited remaining scalp donor resources.

An additional source of grafts

For some patients, the scalp alone cannot provide the graft numbers needed for the desired level of coverage. Beard and body hair can increase the total donor supply and be combined strategically with scalp hair in more extensive restoration.

Where can body-hair grafts come from?

Additional donor hair can come from several areas depending on the patient’s hair characteristics. Common sources include the beard, chest, abdomen, arms, legs and underarm/axillary area.

Each donor source behaves differently, so the choice depends on calibre, texture, growth cycle and how closely the hair matches the recipient area.

Beard hair

Beard follicles are often among the strongest non-scalp donor hairs. Their calibre can make them particularly useful for adding visual density through selected areas of the scalp while finer scalp grafts are reserved for softer transitions such as the frontal hairline.

Chest, arm, leg and other body hair

Chest, arm, leg and other body follicles can also provide useful donor hair. Because these hairs differ from scalp hair in growth length, calibre and cycle, they are selected and placed strategically rather than treated as interchangeable with scalp grafts.

Advanced donor planning

Body hair transplantation is not simply about finding more hair. The plan considers which donor source is best suited to which recipient area so scalp, beard and body grafts can each contribute where their characteristics are most useful.

Specialist body-hair expertise

Our body-hair cases are matched with doctors experienced in non-scalp FUE harvesting and the different follicular characteristics found across donor areas.

What happens next

Consultation assesses the scalp donor first, then beard and body donor sources when additional graft supply could strengthen the restoration plan. The doctor will advise which donor areas are most useful and how they should be combined.
